Russia: Future trends of Baltica in Rostov region

The Rostovskaya Oblast’s governor met in August the President of “Baltica” Brewery Joint Stock Company. At the meeting they discussed the future trends of one of the biggest enterprises development in the Oblast – a branch office of “Baltica” JSC brewery – “Baltica-Rostov”, its experience in social, tax and investment fields and the issues of its collaboration with Rostovskaya Oblast administration, the Russian Brewers Union reported.

Anton Artemiev, the president of brewery “Baltica”: ‘Over 15 years of its history, “Baltica” company invested 1 billion dollars in the state’s economy, and over the last 10 years alone it paid 1.2 billion dollars of taxes. We see our work experience in Rostovskaya Oblast, which is the first regional investment project of the company, as quite successful in many respects owing to those sound and civilized relations between the authorities and business that has been existing in Rostovskaya Oblast. Rostovskaya Oblast is a bearing region to us, and we will contribute to its development in every possible way.’

During several years “Baltica – Rostov” has been a sponsor for Rostov Handball club. In September of 2005 the company will organize a mini-football Championship among the amateur teams in Rostov, which is going to be a real festival for the citizens. Such sporting event is an efficient contribution of the authorities and the brewers to the sport training and healthy life-style promotion in Russia.

“Baltica” JSC brewery takes an active part in the investment processes on the territory of Rostov Oblast. Since 1998 the company invested more than 128 million US dollars in the region’s economy. In 2006 it is planning to invest in a grain elevator reconstruction, near-beer production equipment, productive capacity expansion of the ale-barrel line, trading equipment.

JSC brewery “Baltica” is the biggest tax-payer of Rostov oblast. For the first half of 2005 only the company paid over 350 million rubles to the budget of Rostovskaya Oblast. Last year Oblast exchequer received from “Baltica” more than half of billion rubles.

In spite of the low growth rates of the brewing trade on the whole, sales volumes of the excisable goods of the brewery “Baltica” are growing continuously. For the first half of 2005 year company’s share in the market has increased up to 43% in the South and by 66% in Rostov while in 2004 production of “Baltica” held 37% of the market in the South of Russia and a little more than 50% in Rostov –on – Don.

At present “Baltica” JSC brewery – “Baltica – Rostov” produces more than a hundred and a half sorts of beers from economical to the premium segments, among which are two of the most popular brands in Russia “Baltica” and “Arsenalnoye”, licensed beer Carsberg and Foster’s, Rostov brand “Don”, which sales are constantly growing.
